What is Mindful Eating?

How can we exercise mindful eating behaviors in our day to day life? In this lesson, we defined mindful eating and how it impacts our eating behaviors. Mindful eating is an approach to strengthen healthy eating behaviors by maintaining our attention in the present moment and how are body feels before and after a meal. By doing so, we are able to correctly read our hunger cues and stop when we feel full or eat when we feel hungry. Mindful eating helps identify unwanted eating behaviors such as distracted or binge eating.

Lesson Objectives: 

  • Demonstrate the importance of mindful eating. 

  • Determine how we feel before and after eating a meal by using the hunger scale and our 5 senses.

  • Identify mindful eating strategies.
