Lesson 1:
Natural vs Added Sugars

How is the sugar in apples different from the sugars in cake or pie? Foods like milk and fruits are sources of natural sugars, while foods like candy, cookies, and cake are sources of added sugars. It is best to limit intake of added sugar and substitute foods with added sugar for sources of natural sugar.

By the end of this lesson you should be able to...

  1. Recognize 3 sources of added sugar.

  2. Name one difference between added and natural sugar.

  3. Identify one natural sugar alternative to an added sugar food (e.g: eating apples instead of apple pie), and try an alternative before the next lesson.
